Lopez Treats School Kids To Private Concert

Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez performed one of her most low-key concerts ever in New York on Tuesday , when she took to the stage for an elementary school's graduation ceremony. The pop star was contacted by the students at Staten Island's autistic school P.S. 37 after teacher Kathy Amati showed them the video for Lopez's single Let's Get Loud. The kids loved the promo so much, Amati suggested they write to Lopez in the hope of getting autographs or pictures in return. But they were stunned when Lopez personally requested to perform at their graduation ceremony - and the group of 10 and 11-year-olds were treated to a private performance on Tuesday, where she sang Let's Get Loud specially for them.

Why Did Universals Film Vault Burn Down

Universal Studios Chairman Ron Meyer has taken issue with news reports claiming that
the studio's water system was inadequate to battle the fire that, among other things,
destroyed a vault containing tapes of thousands of the company's television shows
and hundreds of classic film prints. In a message to company employees that Nikki Finke
posted on her Dateline Hollywood Today website, Meyer said that it was "not the case"
that the water system was inadequate. "In fact, at a recent press conference organized
by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Chief Michael Freeman stated unequivocally
that Universal had sufficient water capacity to handle the fire." However, news reports
of Freeman's assessment noted that the fire chief had added that despite the suf
ficient water capacity, the studio's own system of water lines running through the
movie-set rafters decreased water pressure and resulted in additional water loss
when some of the lines snapped when the rafters collapsed during the fire.

Wesley Snipes - Snipes Pleads To Be Allowed To Film Abroad

Troubled Hollywood star WESLEY SNIPES is begging a judge to let him leave the U.S. so he can shoot two movies in Britain and Thailand, while he is appealing his conviction for tax fraud.

The Blade star was handed a three-year prison sentence in April (08) after officials found him guilty of failing to file taxes for five years.

The 45-year-old is currently free on appeal, and has filed paperwork requesting permission to shoot Gallowwalker in London and Chasing The Dragon in Bangkok, insisting the money he earns from the two projects will "satisfy his civil tax liabilities".

In court documents, filed on Wednesday (25Jun08), Snipes' lawyer Daniel Meachum insists the actor is not a flight risk because "were he to abscond under these circumstances, it would destroy his ability to earn a living for the rest of his life."

Meachum adds, "Mr.Snipes will, of course, voluntarily return after his work on this film - as he has done each time he has been granted permission by this court."

But Snipes' request may be hampered by the fact the movie star failed to return to America immediately after charges were brought against him in 2006 - he was filming Gallowwalker in Namibia.

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam Join Fight Against Insurance Companies

Rockers PEARL JAM are backing a campaign to raise money for patients fighting health insurance companies for payouts.

A pre-concert party is being held in Hartford, Connecticut on Friday (27Jun08), ahead of the band's gig there - organised by Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness head Jennifer Jaff.

Pearl Jam were introduced to the cause by lead guitarist Mike MCCready, who has suffered bowel disorder Crohn's Disease for 25 years.

Jaff also suffers the disease and is currently fighting her own battle with an insurance company to cover the cost of her treatment.

MCCready tells the Hartford Courant newspaper, "Jennifer Jaff is one of the best advocates for patients I have ever seen. It's super-important for her to fight against the insurance companies that will deny people any kind of coverage for their pre-existing conditions. The work she does is justified, and I just love it.

"We live in the greatest country in the world, and I have lived here my entire life, but we need to invest our money back into things that look at a broader scope, not just things that are going to make us money. If people are going to die because some legislation didn't go through, that, to me, is abhorrent. That's not what America means to me."
